About Bellaclan Puppies

Bellaclan puppies are born and raised in my home and are extensively socialized before they leave. My puppies can be seen in the show, obedience, herding, agility and rally-o rings aroung the globe. Many of them are simply loving family pets, this might be their most important job of all! I aim for a dog that can do whatever you ask of it, and that exemplifys the very best possible of the Border Collie breed. All owners of my puppies are part of my family and together we are "Team Bellaclan"!!! I want to hear from new owners regularly about how the puppy is doing in all respects, I take responsibilty for the well being of all the dogs that I have brought into this world and provide life time support to you, the puppy owner.
I often bring the pups with me where ever I go since I know that as adults dogs they will spend many hours traveling with us, mostly those that will be show dogs. Once the are old enough we will take them to beaches and parks to socialize. It is your job to continue this with your puppy once they are home. The more you introduce to your puppy at a young age the more they will tolerate as an adult and be immuned to those situations! I cannot stress enough how important socialization is and how it is important to let your puppy have as many pleasant interactions with all kinds of people as possible while they are young. A well socialized puppy makes a well adjusted adult.
I try to do everything as natural as possible. I do not vaccinate my dogs yearly, they do not need to be! If you give the correct puppy vaccinations and then again at a year of age, most dogs do not need to be vaccinated for 5 or more years there after. Do you get a yearly vaccination? No! It lasts 10 years, and it does with your dog too! If in doubt have a titer test done every 1-3 years which will show if your dog is still immuned. In the recent years it has been proven time and time again that more harm has been caused by prequent vaccinations then good, and the dogs actually have lower immune systems when they are over vaccinated and more chance of cancer in the site of vaccination. I feed my dogs as natural as possible and have done a lot of in depth research into canine nutrition. I have found that my dogs do best on a diet of very high quality kibble with the addition of raw meat and edible bones. There is so much information online concerning feeding raw and I encourage you to do some research! I do keep my dogs rabies vaccinations current since that is the law, and we frequently cross the border into the USA. I do not vaccinate for kennel cough. Kennel cough is a canine cold and there are 400+ strains of it. Chances are the vaccination will not even protect them. I have yet to have kennel cough become lethal where the dog could not fight it off in a day or two. I often show at shows with entries of 2500 dogs per show, in one building, and have even had a friends dog here which we found out had it, non of mine got it. I strongly believe that a dog that is fed well and gets exercise will be able to easily fight off little things like a doggy cold, simply with good rest and a few extra vitamins (Vit C), herbs such as Echineacia, and other such natural remedies like garlic, and immune boosting cod liver oil.
The health of your puppy for life and of the breed in later generations is so important to me. Therefore, hips and elbows are OFA scored, dogs are DNA tested for CEA/CH, CL, and TNS, and I have CERF exams done by an opthamologist. BAER hearing tests, cardiac tests and thyroid checks are also available and sometimes practiced. I check pedigrees for EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) and seizures, all BEFORE any dog is ever bred from. This is also a strict requirement for anyone that may later breed one of the puppies they get from me. Only the healthiest, good tempered, structuraly sound, and correct to standard dogs are bred from and reproduced. No dog is ever bred from before the age of two years old as they need time to fully grow and mature first.

Each litters produced is thought out in great detail with pedigrees being examined thouroughly, we do not just breed our girls to any stud to make more puppies. We do not breed for any one particular trait such as colour, rather we breed for a dog that fits the Border Collie Breed Standards. I put no boundaries on my dogs gene pools. If the perfect stud who matches my bitch is located across the world, then I will import semen and breed to him regardless of location. Quality is far more important to me then quantity, and each new generation should better then the last. Therefore you may have quite the wait for a puppy but you will know that we bred the best we could to produce him/her.
Any puppy that we breed that is labeled as "pet quality" will be sold on AKC limited registration, cannot be shown in conformation, and must be spayed/neutered. You will recieve your dogs ownership papers (AKC registration) once we recieve a copy of your dogs spay/neuter certificate from your vet. All our puppies are sold on a written contract which also guarantees the genetic health of your puppy.
I never sell pups in a "first come first serve" order. Once I pick the pup(s) that will be staying here with me, I will choose where each puppy will go and to what home. I KNOW my puppies from the moment they were born, and thus know them better then anyone. I do not believe that a person can pick their puppy through a picture, or from meeting the litter for a few minutes and picking the puppy that way. I know each pups quirks and temperament and I try to get to know the owners as best I can. When you fill out Puppy Application this gives me an insight of what you want in a dog. Please be detailed in your application! What you write is what I use to match you with a puppy. Some puppies are show quality and some are pet quality due to many factors. As a breeder I am responsible for which puppies go to live in show homes and possibly contribute to the breed for generations and which ones go into pet homes. This is not in anyway saying that the show puppies are so much better then the pets and that as a breeder I am sending you low quality. Something simple such as a blue eye on a black puppy, or a hazel eye instead of dark brown, or white markings on the body, more or less angles then I prefer, and other simple things that do not have a huge effect on a dog as a pet but that are factors I consider on a dog that might be bred from later! Show dogs are often on the road a lot and I often choose the energetic naughty and tireless one true to breed type to be a show dog over the calm ones that would be better as pets.
Although I find it "tacky" to list the price of a puppy on my website I find that it clears the air from the get go before one contacts me, currently prices are as listed below and depend on how much the stud fee was, and if we used frozen semen, imported the parents or did a live breeding, make note that these are typical prices for a high quality purebred dog in Canada:
Pet quality puppy $1000-$1500
Show/breeding quality puppy $1500-$1800
Puppy exported (stays an extra 2 months with us and will start show training) $1800-$2000
*I reserve the right to change these prices at any time, these are only a general outline*
If you are interested in joining the Bellaclan team by accquiring one of our puppies, then please fill out my PUPPY APPLICATION and share more about yourself with me. Any one line e-mails will be ignored, if you do not have time to write me a decent e-mail about yourself and what you are looking for, then you don't have time for one of my puppies!
