Bellaclan as a kennel was established in 1996, however the Bellaclan prefix didn't`t come into existence until a full ten years later. Until then the
dogs were known under the ``Brildwn`` prefix, and was a joint effort between Laur Shaw, Grace Shaw, and later in 2001 with Grace moving onto
other things, Dustin Kensington joined in the effort. The original Brildwn dog was a Finish Spitz imported from Finland and given to Laur as a
present from her father on Christmas Day, and thus was named Brildwn By The Fireside ``Chestnut``. The first Border Collie, ``Comet`` did not
make an appearance until May of 1998, again he was a present to Laur from her father, but this time on her birthday! From there Laur got
hooked on competitive obedience and fell completely, and utterly head over heels in love with the Border Collie breed.
The first "Brildwn" litter was born in 2001 and was out of Comet and a leased bitch by the name of Highviews China Doll. From this they retained
Sport. Although Sport sired a couple of litters, one for "Brildwn" consisting of one stunning long haired chocolate puppy, Brildwns Solo Red
Panda "Emma", and one litter for another kennel who lease Highviews Tessa-Marie from Grace Shaw, in which "Brildwn" got Echo, Brildwns
Echo of Comets Dream, one more Brildwn litter graced the world when Comet was taken to Tessie and Brildwns Wings Of An angel "Jade"
(Halle) was added to the crew. Eventually whelping a litter for another breeder, Laur was able to add Benny, and his litter sister Laurel in 2005.
Another closely related bitch, Paris was added to the Brildwn crew in 2003 with hopes of eventually producing quality performance puppies.
Around this time Laur, who had been showing in conformation since 1998 as a junior, mainly Great Pyrenees, decided that she would like to get
into the show type quality of Border Collies. Finally in 2005 Laur took the plunge and imported a 9 month old bitch sired by BISS Am CH Korella
Royal Command ROMF, #2 BC USA, 2XAOM at Westminster winner, AKA "Dallas", this new addition was named Follyhill Felicity Bellaclan
Felicity, and she was from Dr. Darby Lewes of Folly Hills Kennels in PA, USA, to whom forever she will be greatfull!
This is where our story takes a drastic turn. Felicity was an intense, gorgeous little dog that won Laur over from the get go and made her realize
what kind of Border Collies she wanted to breed in the future. On January 1, 2006 the Bellaclan prefix was released soley by Laura Shaw and
this is where our adventure begins! Parker, Can CH Noteworthy Prophecy In Time CGN HIC was soon added to the clan in 2007, followed by
the first BELLACLAN litter on new years day 2009 our of Boomer and Felicity, the two girls, Folly and Vallen, were kept on co-ownership. The
second Bellaclan litter was born on November 20, 2009 from which Jackson was retained and is owned in joint effort with Arron M. J. Alphonso.
Along with the addition of their home bred boy Jackson in 2010, there is a plan to import two other bitches from the USA that will hopefully be an
integral part of Bellaclans prestigiouse breeding programme.
Health and temperament is a major consideration while breeding Border Collies to Laur as so many people have shy and snippy dogs and too
many times use the excuse "there Border Collies, there just like that". Laur hopes to change that train of thought and consistently breed dogs
with excellent temperaments, that are the picture of health. All Bellaclan breeding dogs have their hips and elbows X-Rayed and certified with the
OFA, and must pass this test in order to be considered for breeding. Along with that there CEA, TNS, and CL status is known and they are
CERF eye tested for PRA, Cataracs and soon Glaucoma, by a K-9 Opthamologist no more then a year before the pups are born. Homes are
screened carefully and the pups produced are kept track of for life, and backed by a health guarantee in writing.
